After successfully partnering on 22 residential house demolitions in Burt County, the $75,000 that Burt County Economic Development received from the Donald E. Nielsen Fund for the Residential Demolition Grant was nearly gone. Because of the success of the program, Burt County EDC has decided to fund an additional $25,000. Each grant recipient can apply for up to 1/2 of the cost for the demolition of a house within the city limits of any of the five communities.
The goal of the program is to provide an incentive for homeowners or cities/villages to remove unsafe homes, making way for new homes. At the same time, improving the community can be contagious. Removing eyesores can invigorate entire neighborhoods.
