Electricity
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) retails electricity to the cities of Craig, Oakland, and Tekamah. Decatur purchases its power at wholesale through Burt County Public Power District (BCPPD), and Lyons is a wholesale customer of NPPD.
Natural Gas
Black Hills Energy is the retail supplier of natural gas in Craig, Oakland, and Tekamah. Lyons distributes natural gas in Lyons. Northern Natural Gas is the transmission pipeline company for each of these communities. Natural gas is not available in Decatur.
Telecommunications
Fastwyre and Qwest Communications are local exchange carriers for Tekamah, Oakland and Lyons. Qwest serves Oakland with high-speed digital central office and Lyons with a DMS 100 central office.
Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company provides service for Craig and Decatur. Digital central office in Craig is fed by self-healing fiber ring. DSL services available in both communities.
Satellite service is provided by HughesNet.
Internet Service
High speed internet service is available in Burt County from Fastwyre, Northeast Nebraska Telephone, and CenturyLink. Wireless is available from Speednet, Skywave, and PT Flashnet.

Water & Sewer
Each community provides water and sewer service for the entire community. County residents are responsible for their own water and sewer service through wells and septic systems. There are two rural water services in Burt County – Logan East Rural Water and Cuming Rural Water – that do provide water service, depending on location.
- Village of Craig
The municipal water system in Craig is supplied by three wells, which have an average depth of 250 feet. The system serves the entire population in the village. A tapping fee of $100 is charged for new water service. Craig has a municipal sanitary sewerage system and a storm sewer system. A tapping fee of $100 is charged for new sewer service as well.
- Village of Decatur
The municipal water system in Decatur is supplied by two wells, which have an average depth of 100 feet. Groundwater is available for industrial uses. The water treatment plant, with pressure filters, has a daily capacity of 282,000 gallons. A tapping fee of $250–$350 is charged for new water service. Decatur has a municipal sanitary sewerage system and a storm sewer system. A fee of $150 is charged for new sewer service.
- City of Lyons
The municipal water system in Lyons is supplied by three wells with an average depth of 93 feet. A tapping fee of $50 is charged for new water service in Lyons. Lyons has a municipal sanitary sewerage system and a storm sewer system. A tapping fee of $300 is charged for new sewer connections.
- City of Oakland
The municipal water system in Oakland is supplied by three wells, which have an average depth of 350 feet. Groundwater is available for industrial uses. The water treatment plant, with a daily capacity of 720,000 gallons, removes iron and manganese. A tapping fee of $200–$400 is charged for new water service in Oakland. Oakland has a municipal sanitary sewerage system and a storm sewer system. A tapping fee of $50 is charged for new sewer connections.
- City of Tekamah
The municipal water system in Tekamah is supplied by five wells, which have an average depth of 180 feet. The quality of water in Tekamah does not necessitate a water treatment plant. A tapping fee of $250 minimum is charged for new water service. Tekamah has a municipal sanitary sewerage system and a storm sewer system.
